Our local South Bay has lots of little-known claims to fame! Here are a few - how many did you know?

• The Beach Boys formed in Hawthorne, California in 1961. When original members Brian Wilson and his cousin Mike Love wrote the lyrics to Surfin USA, Brian’s brother Dennis was the only band member who surfed.

• Popular TV programs - Medium, The OC, and Baywatch - were filmed in Redondo Beach at the beach, coffee shops, Redondo Union High School, Redondo Pier, and local parks.

• The filming of several Pirates of the Caribbean films took place in Redondo Beach. Johnny Depp reportedly met fans and signed autographs daily, and was said to have fallen in love with Redondo Beach.

• Torrance, California is the proud birthplace of the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), founded in 1964. Today it is one of the largest and most successful youth soccer organizations in the US.
